The 1st Annual “Shades of Death” Moped Ride & Chili Cookoff will be held on Saturday, May 23rd. The 50+ mile ride through scenic Hunterdon and Warren Counties, will depart from my home in Lebanon Township, NJ, at 10AM. Following the ride, there will be a judged “Chili Cookoff” contest at my home. The winner of the Chili cookoff will be awarded a moped, so be sure to bring your best pot of chili to the ride. As in prior years, Attendees are welcome to arrive Friday, May 22nd and either camp out in my yard Friday night, or you can make hotel accomodations at the Quality Inn, about 6 miles down the road in Mansfield, NJ. There will be an “Open Lair” on Friday afternoon and a pre-ride Friday evening. We stay up late and talk peds on Friday night.
Please note that all attendees must bring one of the following to the BBQ….
1. Big Pot of Chili to be judged and consumed by other guests
2. A covered dish (with food of course)
3. $5 cover charge to help subsidize the cost of Hotdogs, Hamburgers, snacks, drinks, etc. for people who do not want to eat chili.
If you are interested in attending, please email me directly so you are included on the Guest List. Invitations will be emailed to those who respond. Two weeks prior to the ride, an updated invite will be emailed to all guests, which will include my street address.
We had over 70 attendees at the last ride in 2007, and I expect at least that many folks this year. We have a new name, a new route and a chili cookoff. Shades of Death will not disappoint!
